Madrid – Welcome to the 24 hour party

As Spain’s capital, Madrid has a diverse range of people and cultures and there is lots to see here from Ancient Spanish architecture to cosmopolitan bars and clubs the place has it all.

Who Comes to Madrid?
Madrid is often visited by all manner of people – families wanting a taste of a Spanish cosmopolitan atmosphere, couples in search of romance and culture, stag and hen parties and gay men and women like to come here to sight-see by day and party by night. Most people stay for a long weekend or a mid-week city break.

When Does the Season Start in Madrid?
Madrid can be a very hot city in the height of the season (July and August). Holidaymakers choose to visit between March and September with March to June being the best time for families as it’s quieter then, as with many cities.

Best Airport
There are three airports here but travellers to Madrid will often arrive at Madrid Barajas Airport which is just 8 miles from Madrid itself. This is a large and busy airport and you’ll find all manner of transport available from regular buses, taxis, car hire and trains that can take you straight to your hotel.

Madrid Nightlife
There are lots of quality bars and clubs with DJ’s and regular music in Madrid, many of the popular ones are found littered around the scenic city. There is a distinctly hip party atmosphere, with a great gay scene, found at Chueca near to which are other bars that party goers pile into and out of all night long. At peak season when its hot, the city has a 24 hour party atmosphere and you might just see flyers or leaflets about the illegal Sunday morning club, Los Afters. And look on your map for Plaza Santa Anas, a popular area where you will find there’s a great buzz and ambience all night long. You can even find the superclub Pacha here.

Local Cuisine
Madrid is not a cheap resort but there are plenty of wonderful foods to try. In the Chueca area you will find Arce, a restaurant serving Tapas and Asiana serving mouth watering Oriental cuisine. Tapas with wine for one will set you back around 55 Euros at Arce.

Local Drinks
Madrid drinks prices vary, for obvious reasons, depending on where you are drinking but expect a (large) spirit with a mixer to be around 5 Euros.

Boy: Girl Ratio
Expect there to be an equal mix of boys to girls in the city.

Getting Around Madrid
You can get to most of your destinations on foot as the city is built up but you will find many bus services if you prefer to be transported or you can take the metro.
